Microsoft has confirmed that needed to be no longer developing the touch-friendly versions of Office apps for Windows
The idea Mobile, Excel Mobile, and PowerPoint Mobile apps perfectly located at the Microsoft Store first appeared for Windows 8.1, and development has continued with the relieve Windows 10. However now this is changing, with Microsoft saying it wishes to focus on the Win32, web, iOS and Android versions instead.
While Windows versions in the touch-friendly editions of Office are generally not being killed off -- yet -- you must not expect to find any additional features added before i write again. Microsoft is ceasing advancement of the apps and focusing its attention elsewhere.
Inside the statement provided to the Verge, Microsoft said:
We are now prioritizing development on the iOS and Android versions folks apps; is undoubtedly Windows, we are now prioritizing Win32 and web versions personal apps.
The move is surprising actions lead to Microsoft has been making an effort to encourage other developers to release UWP apps. But when it comes to Office, it will be the desktop version that can be far and away typically the most popular, so the reprioritization provides an impressive lot of sense. Quite what this implies for Surface Hub 2 remains to be seen, however.
